It is official.
I am moved out from my family’s..and into a place of my own. Yes, I am so broke and what not..But I love my new place!! :]
Freedom has a big sticker price here in Seoul, but the benefits are much higher.
Besides me sleeping in peace..(I don’t have to hear 4 alarms go off at 5 am from my cousin’s room, nobody is yelling (talking) to each other late at night/early in the morning, my aunt and uncle talking about god-knows-who, the fucking little monsters who think they are training for the olympics upstairs, and getting judged for eating an extra piece of chocolate.)…eating for myself is terrible.
First of all, cooking for one is bad. My friends mentioned it to me before, but this is an all new low. This past week, I ate ramen (restaurant and instant), burger king whopper, a large pizza (dinner and lunch), etc. I haven’t cooked a real meal in my kitchen yet. It has been almost a full week.
Thank god for that membership to Yoga, and a grocery store near my house. Tomorrow, I plan to cook breakfast, make an actual soup, and clean my room.
My roommate i shall call him the German. I think I am the biggest scandal since my grandpa had that side girlfriend in 2005. Sigh. No, Family. I am not a whore-a. I’m just a twentysomething year old girl living with a German, sharing the bathroom and kitchen. Let’s chill the fuck out, please. Yes, the boyfriend is not happy. But soon, he’ll see this place is magical! (And the German has nothing on the boyfriend, serioussslllyyy)
Aside from all that. I had a really weird realization happen to me in the elevator. I went to my (dad’s side) Grandma on Sunday, and then to my Mom’s side on Monday. As soon as I pressed the button 7, I thought I was at my other grandma’s apartment.
Guess what? They both live on the 7th floor, on the same side.
After realizing this, I told my student. She laughed. Number 7 is considered very good luck in Korean culture. (I seriously had no idea.) I was like really? She was like yes, and number 4 is considered very bad luck. That’s why in korean hospitals, you will never see the number 4..it is replaced with F. Why? The number 4, looks like the chinese symbol death. Weird, huh??
Anyways, it makes sense. Both sets of my grandmas are paranoid, and are really superstitious. I wonder what number 2 means…
Living in Hongdae (away from the chaos) is so nice. I thought I’d see drunks everywhere (still do), but where I live there are more families.
For the first time in a long time, I can sleep without wondering if I should buy earplugs and get it over with.
Hooray! To freedom, peace and quiet.
